September 24th - Middle School Back to School Night

Back-To-School Night and Lasagna Dinner Wednesday, September 24, 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm: You are all invited to join us for an evening of celebration at MVC Middle School. We have an evening planned to share with you the exciting and meaningful learning that takes place at our middle school. This evening is intended for parents only, although students are welcome to attend if supervised by their parents. The dinner is free of charge for up to three members in each family. We will begin serving at 5:30 pm and end at 6:30 pm in the middle school quad near the MSPAR.

RSVP with your name and number of dinners to Laura Hamilton by Wednesday, September 17. Our café must order all food supplies by the next day.

Fall Sports Try-Outs

Football August 15th immediately after school

Any athlete not in 7th period strength and conditioning will meet at the practice football field after school.  This is the first day of official practice.

Volleyball Try-Outs August 15, 16 and 18

All athletes will meet in the HS gym, dates and times are below:

Day 1:  Friday (8/15):       Freshman/JV 3:45-5:45.  Varsity 5:15-7:15.

Day 2:  Saturday (8/16):   Freshman/JV 10am-12pm. Varsity 8-10am.

Day 3:  Monday (8/18):    Freshman/JV 3:45-5:45.  Varsity 5:15-7:15.

Everyone will try-out for Freshman/JV unless they are returning Varsity players or have been asked to attend the Varsity try-outs.

Girls Tennis Begins August 18th

Athletes will meet at the tennis courts after school, try-outs will end at 5:30.  Monday-Thursday try-outs will end at 5:30.

Girls Golf  Begins August 18th

Athletes will meet in the gym lobby right after school the first day of try-outs.  Monday-Thursday Golf will end at 5:45.

Cross Country  Begins August 18th

Athletes will meet in front of the HS gym after school. Practice will end by 5:00 Monday-Thursday.

All Athletes must have a sports physical on file the first day of try-outs in order to participate.

Construction Update

New Varsity Boys Basketball Coach

We are proud to announce Mr. Steve Miles as the new Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach.

Steve returns to MVC after a brief retirement to once again lead our boys’ basketball program.  Steve Miles had a long record of success as head coach at Monte Vista Christian.  From 2000 to 2003, the boys’ varsity basketball team was recognized for many accomplishments, including two League Championship titles, three Central Coast Section Div. IV Championships, and twice Northern California Runner-up.  Steve has also been honored as Coach of the Year.

The MVC school community looks forward to an outstanding basketball season with Steve at the helm, more importantly, the lives touched by his professional standard of conduct, his respect for the players and the sport, and his inspiration as a role model.   Steve’s mentorship on-and-off the court plays an important factor in his success as a leader.

Lourdes Gomez Receives Ken Brosius Scholarship

Lourdes Gomez of Monte Vista Christian School has received the 2014 Ken Brosius Memorial Scholarship from The Gold Standard Barbershop Chorus.  Each year an outstanding and musical high school senior with experience singing in a quartet is awarded the the scholarship.  During her time at MVC, Lourdes studied Voice Pedagogy, Vocal Techniques, Piano, and Choir.  She was also section leader and member of the Girl’s Quartet featured at the Sing For Your Life concert.  In the fall, she will be attending Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University with the intention of preparing for a career in Music Theory and Composition.  Lourdes is the most recent MVC graduate to receive the scholarship since it was created in 2007; other recipients were Todd Scalisi in 2008, Christian Purcell in 2009, Serena Buie in 2010, and Jack Wilkins in 2012.  Congratulations to Lourdes, and thanks to the The Gold Standard Barbershop Chorus for their generosity.

Dr. Tony Dehner Nominated for Music Educator Award

Dr. Tony Dehner was one of 222 quarterfinalists announced for music educator award presented by the Recording Academy and the Grammy Foundation.

The MVC softball team  has qualified for the CCS playoffs for the first time in over 10 years!   We will host Scotts Valley at 4pm on Wednesday, May 21.
