"Hoop Dreams" Star Agee and Olympic Gold Medalist Bolton speaking on December 29
Ruthie Bolton, two-time Olympic gold medal winner in women’s basketball, will join Arthur Agee, whose life was featured in the documentary “Hoop Dreams,” in speaking at Monte Vista Christian School on December 29.
In addition to her Olympic gold medals (1996 & 2000), Bolton is a former WNBA All-Star guard with the Sacramento Monarchs. In 2006, she was honored to be placed on the WNBA All-Decade team, and was named as one of the 10 best and most influential players of the first decade.
Agee was featured in the award-winning documentary “Hoop Dreams,” which followed him and a friend as their basketball skills earn them spots on the basketball team of a prestigious private high school.
Bolton and Agee will speak about the importance of setting goals and keeping a positive mental attitude. They are both involved in a number of community programs that reach out to youth, helping young people to understand what they personally can do to find real-life success, and encouraging them with the importance of getting an education. Agee will show sections of “Hoop Dreams” during his presentation.
“These athletes are great role models for all of the students in our community,” said Dan Mooney, head basketball coach at Monte Vista, who arranged for Bolton and Agee’s visit. “They will inspire students as they begin to face the gang violence and drug abuse that are spreading into every city. We’d like to see students and families come from counties all around us.”
The event will take place during the Don and Martha Price Holiday Classic Varsity Girls and Boys Basketball Tournament. Bolton and Agee will speak in the evening on Wednesday, December 29, starting at 7pm.
The public is invited. Tournament admission is $5 adults/$3 students & seniors/$2 ages 7-12/ ages 6 and under free. Through the generous sponsorship of Watsonville Chevrolet, the presentations are free for those who buy tickets for the Tournament.

Hey Kids, Want to Hang Out With Your Very Own Football Player?
Our Junior Mustangs program is beginning this weekend, and we still have some openings. Our football team is looking forward to spending time with their young fans, ages Pre-K through 6th grade.
All Junior Mustangs will receive a shirt with their own player’s number on it. When they wear their shirts to home games they get in free. After the game, they can walk with their player to the locker room and help them carry their shoulder pads or their helmet.
The Saturday morning after the game (the next day), the Junior Mustangs can come up to the field and hang out with their Mustang player from 11:30-12:30. Parents may drop them off and then come back to pick them up, or may stay if they choose. The cost is $40.
Please contact the Athletics Department at 831-768-6148 if you’d like more information.
